CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team (4-1) took game one of their weekend series against Princeton (0-1), 3-1.
Right-handed pitcher Nick Robert (2-0) added a stellar second outing to his sophomore campaign Friday night.
Robert earned the win after striking out a career-high eight batters in five innings of work, giving up two hits and a lone unearned run in the third.
In the second inning, catcher Tanner Smith blasted the ball 378 feet over the left field fence for a two-run home run, propelling Miami to a 2-0 lead.
Outfielder Max Galvin, who had a perfect night at the plate going 3-for-3, was able to drive in Dorian Gonzalez Jr. in the bottom of the sixth to push the Miami lead to 3-1.
Right-handed pitchers AJ Ciscar, Carson Fischer, and Will Smith were able to keep the Tigers’ bats quiet, allowing just one hit in the final four innings while striking out six.
Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at Alex Rodriguez Park. Those looking to tune in can do so by watching on ACCNX or listening to 90.5 WVUM.
