Purdue Transfer DT Branson Deen Commits to Miami

Miami has now added its seventh transfer in the 2023 class with the commitment of Purdue senior defensive tackle Branson Deen, who locked in on Monday afternoon.

Deen visited Miami this past weekend, less than a week after entering the Transfer Portal. He joins Georgia State transfer Thomas Gore and four-star Joshua Horton as the much-needed interior defensive line help. He comes in as a graduate transfer heading into his sixth season of college ball.

The five-year veteran was ranked as the third-best defensive lineman for Purdue by PFF. Over the course of his career, he played in 31 games for Purdue, totaling 72 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks.

The last two seasons, he maintained a starting role for Purdue and was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention each of the last two seasons. He is likely to play a similar role at Miami as he did at Purdue, rotating as an interior pass rusher. At 6'2" and 280 pounds, he does not fit the prototypical size of the position and will have to play a role as a three-technique defensive tackle.

Coming out of high school, Deen was a three-star prospect who was ranked among the 40 best weakside defensive ends for the 2018 class. He held offers from Cincinnati, Louisville, Northwestern, and Syracuse.

Other transfer options along the defensive line for Miami are Alton Tarber (Oklahoma), Isaiah Nichols (Arkansas), Anthony Lucas (Texas A&M), and Justin Rogers (Kentucky).
