There was a lapse in Transfer Portal exits at Miami but a big blow comes in the form of quarterback Jake Garcia. Peter Thamel of ESPN was first to report the decision.
Garcia intends to enter the Transfer Portal ahead of the Wednesday deadline to enter. He leaves after two years at Miami.
A former four-star prospect, Garcia was the sixth best pro-style quarterback in the 2021 class. Miami was able to flip him after a three-month commitment to USC.
Coming to Miami as such a highly touted prospect, many considered Garcia to be the savior of the program as part of a strong class that included James Williams, Kamren Kinchens, Leonard Taylor and Elijah Arroyo. That class finished 12th in the country for 2021.
The expectations were never met for Garcia at Miami, though. He started just one game and played in nine total, throwing for 950 yards and seven touchdowns to four interceptions. Miami won his lone start, 14-12 in an four-overtime thriller at Virginia where not a single offense touchdown was scored for Miami.
Tyler Van Dyke is expected to be the starter once again next season with Jacurri Brown, Peyton Matocha and freshman Emory Williams providing depth.
