Explosive 2025 Running Back Girard Pringle commits to Miami

Miami adds an explosive running back to the 2025 class with commitment from three-star Girard Pringle on Saturday evening. Pringle decided to commit to Miami after his visit to Miami Saturday.

"They checked a lot of boxes," Pringle said. "I know when I leave my home, I'm coming to another home. It's like my home away from home. I loved the bond with Coach [Matt] Merritt, Coach [Mario] Cristobal. Just everything about it is great on the field. Everybody's competitive. It's like one big family."

Pringle has elite speed—he ran a 10.56 in the 100 meters—and is also a threat out of the backfield. He gets through the hole with elite bursts of speed and can explode in space.

The difference in Pringle's recruitment was his relationship with Miami's new running backs coach. Merritt, who previously coached at USF, accepted the job at Miami last month. He was recruiting Pringle long before joining the Miami staff.

"I've had a relationship with him for about a year and a half. He offered me at USF. Our bond is pretty tight."

When Pringle learned the news of the change in scenery for Merritt, he immediately contacted the Miami coach.

"I texted him. I was like bring me with you."

Scouting Report

The newest Hurricane commitment is one of the fastest risers in Florida. His offer list went national early this year when details of his dominant 2023 season were released. He has since followed up with blistering times on the track, including a 10.56 in the 100-meter dash in late February, making him more coveted by the week.

On Friday nights, Pringle put together nearly 1,700 yards and 24 touchdowns against prime Tampa-area competition at Seffner (Fla.) Armwood High School. He has the top-end speed and the acceleration to break down angles early after the ball is snapped. There is an urgency to the new UM commitment's game, and it's not just linear. He can work laterally to create space and uses a decisive jump-cut in traffic to reestablish advantages over would-be tacklers.

As Pringle fills out his frame, he can become even more dangerous with the ball in his hands as a runner, return man, or even wide receiver -- where he also has some varsity-level experience. The timing of this win is critical for Cristobal and company, especially considering Pringle's national offer list was about to make him a well-traveled young man during official visit season. It is still of course possible, but now he'll be doing so as an in-state verbal commitment to The U.

Miami now has four-star quarterback Luke Nickel, four-star offensive lineman Lamar Williams, four-star Waden Charles, and four-star linebacker Elijah Melendez committed to the 2025 class.
