Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke is ready to put the 2022 season behind him and is looking ahead to 2023 with a more experienced lens. He talked about the adversity he faced last season, missing time due to injury. TVD spoke to the media Monday at Miami's media day.
"There was a lot of adversity last year, learned a lot about myself, people around me who has my back so. I learned a lot of lessons from last year on and off the field. So I'm excited to have a restart. New offense got it down pretty well so I'm excited to get it going."
Van Dyke will follow Clayton Tune as the next quarterback to be under new offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson's tutelage. Tune passed for over 4,000 yards while at Houston.
"There's a lot of potential," Van Dyke said of the new offensive system he will command. "Very quarterback friendly, receiver friendly, but all I got to do is get the ball into the playmakers' hands. Very explosive, allows you to throw the ball down the field. You play with a lot of freedom so I'm excited about it."
The Miami signal-caller also talked about the running back room "having depth" and described the offensive line as "the real deal now." He also talked about the element of his game that he worked on the most in the offseason:
"I worked a lot on my mobility this year this offseason, and trying to work on my pocket movement. Just my mobility in general. In today's game you have to use your feet a little more than you did back in the day. I just worked on that a lot."
There were rumors that Van Dyke was looking at other transfer options and eventually decided to stay with the Hurricanes.
"This is my home," Van Dyke said. "This is my fourth year here. There have been a lot of people that I've met here, good relationships. Couldn't leave my brothers. This is where I want to be. I'm excited for this year, with Coach Dawson. It'll be a lot of fun, can't wait.
Miami begins fall practice Tuesday morning on Greentree practice field.
