4-star to take October UM official visit

Maryland four-star forward Jermaine Harris has caught the eye of Hurricane coaches.

And vice versa.

“Miami’s most definitely still in it,” Harris said. “I’ve narrowed it down to eight - Maryland, Miami, Rhode Island, South Carolina, West Virginia, Kansas, Xavier and Southern Utah.”

He adds “I can come in and play big minute at all those, play as a freshman. And I have a great relationship with the coaches at those schools, great chemistry.”

Are any ahead?

“No one is ahead right now,” Harris said. “I’m taking my time with it.”

"He just said he likes me as a player, that I have a dog mentality. "

Harris says he’s talking regularly with Cane coach Jim Larranaga - “He likes to win, comes to my games,” Harris said. “He just said he likes me as a player, that I have a dog mentality. And as a person he’s a great person. I’ve talked with him and he’s really trying to get to know me, wants me to take a visit to get to know them more.”

Harris will do that - he says he will visit UM officially - likely the weekend of Oct. 21. He says his other officials will be to West Virginia, Kansas, Rhode Island and Xavier.

When will he announce a decision?

“I’d say in November, early November or late October,” Harris said.

He adds of UM that “They play in a big conference, I’ve bonded with the coaches very well. I can come in and play big minutes as a freshman, play on a big stage. They bring a lot to the table.

CaneSport’s take

Larranaga & Co. are focused on some highly regarded prospects, trying to sway them to Miami. Harris certainly appears to be giving Miami a fair shot, and his official visit will really tell the story for how much the Canes remain in this.
