Alabama commit says UM chances hinge on mom and dad

Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna High School WR Xavier Williams is one of the area’s top prospects, and the Canes are on hot on his trail with Ron Dugans building a relationship.

But he’s an Alabama commitment.

“I mean I’m solid, but I’m still a junior so of course everybody is still recruiting me,” said Williams, who has over 40 offers including Miami.

Williams says Cane coaches have spoken to him about attending Junior Day on Saturday and that “most likely I’ll be there.”

So what does Miami need to do to catch ‘Bama?

Williams says it’s all about mom and dad.

“I’ve been there a lot, so Miami just has to build a relationship with my parents,” he said. “Of course that’s a big deal for me. They have a role, don’t want to send their kid somehow for four years where they don’t know.”

Williams says he also expects to visit a handful of schools this summer.

“A lot of schools are still recruiting me hard,” he said.

The bottom line?

“Growing up all I would do is watch the Miami Hurricanes, but once I got older I started watching some other teams too,” Williams said. “And right now I’m with ‘Bama.”

CaneSport’s take

Williams is a difference-maker with the ball in his hands and UM will give him all it has to try and sway him from Alabama. It won’t be easy, but certainly Williams’ recruitment is one to keep tabs on.
