Cane coach visits four 2017 recruits

Hurricane coaches aren't just focusing on 2016 with the dead period ending.

Running backs coach/co-offensive coordinator Thomas Brown stopped by Palm Beach Gardens High School today and met with four 2017 recruits - LB Vandarius Cowan, DB Amari Carter and linemen Antawn Lewis and Jerry "JD" Drake.

Of the four, the one who already has a UM offer is Cowan. He lists 29 total offers.

"I wasn't surprised their coach came - they recruited me from Georgia and I'm cool with Georgia, that's one of my top schools," Cowan said.

A Florida State commitment, Cowan says UGA is second on his list and UM is third.

What does Miami need to do to catch up?

"Just keep recruiting better players and build," Cowan said, adding that a really good season "would help."

Carter said of Brown that "I really liked him. Miami's a state team and I like the way they play and everything. I look forward to building a relationship with those guys."

Cowan says the overriding theme of Brown's talk with them was "The changes that will come with the new coaching staff - he said they're coming in and making sure they get the Hurricanes back on the map the way they should be."

Brown also invited all four recruits to a future Junior Day, telling them the information will get to them soon.

As for his own recruitment, Cowan has 10 offers but that list doesn't include UM. Of his offers he's favoring North Carolina. He says he has to wait and see whether the Canes offer before figuring out where they might fit into his picture.
